Polytec are seeking an NPI Engineer with a strong background in DFMA and extensive experience transferring products from development to manufacturing for our client based just north of Cambridge.
As an NPI Engineer, you'll be instrumental in introducing new electro-mechanical products into production, collaborating closely with contract manufacturers, and ensuring smooth transitions through PCBA, final assembly and pack-out stages.
You'll be the technical lead in ensuring that the supply chain and production partners are equipped and ready to deliver high-quality products at scale.
Responsibilities:
* Own the mechanical, electronic and support elements of new product introduction.
* Work with internal teams and contract manufacturers to ensure readiness for high-volume production.
* Develop and implement new manufacturing processes and equipment.
* Define and drive DFMA principles into product design.
* Manage prototype builds including logistics, line readiness and issue resolution.
* Support root cause analysis and corrective actions during prototype and ramp-up.
* Create and review work instructions for suppliers and partners.
* Liaise with internal teams (e.g. Repair, Stores, Customisation) to ensure complete operational readiness.
Requirements:
* Strong background in Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA).
* Proven experience in NPI, manufacturing, or process engineering for electro-mechanical products.
* Solid understanding of SMT, electro-mechanical assembly and production line processes.
* Experience with PLM systems (ideally Oracle Agile).
* Ability to analyse data and improve yield in high-volume environments.
* Effective project planning and coordination skills.
Desirable experience:
* HNC or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
* Six Sigma and/or SPC training.
* Experience with contract manufacturers and low-cost manufacturing methods.
* Knowledge of injection moulding and aluminium casting processes.
* Background in high-tech, medium-sized businesses.
