We are seeking an experienced Electronics Diagnostics Engineer for a 6-month fixed term contract based in Ely.
In this role, you will support product quality and reliability by identifying and resolving electronics issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams and subcontract vendors. You'll be involved in both hands-on diagnostics and engineering improvements to support production efficiency and long-term product performance.
Responsibilities
* Diagnose and repair faulty PCB assemblies using a range of diagnostic tools and techniques
* Work closely with Manufacturing, R&D, and supply chain teams to investigate recurring issues and implement permanent corrective design solutions
* Redesign and improve existing electronic systems to optimise for reliability, testability, and manufacturability
* Ensure redesigns align with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles and maintain regulatory compliance
* Develop and implement board-level test rigs and procedures for internal and subcontractor use
* Coordinate knowledge transfer of redesigns into production environments, ensuring smooth integration
* Create detailed documentation for all improvement initiatives, including SOPs, test protocols and equipment configurations
Requirements
Essential:
* Higher education qualification in Electronic Engineering, or a minimum of 3 years' experience in industrial electronics design and diagnostics
* Proven track record in electronics product design and the complete development lifecycle
* Strong expertise in diagnosing and repairing PCB assemblies (digital and analogue)
* Extensive hands-on experience with electronic test and measurement equipment
* Skilled in debugging embedded C software
* Practical experience in building custom board-level test rigs
* Solid background in analogue electronics, including low-noise, high-bandwidth amplifiers and closed-loop system design
* Competent in PCB layout design
Desirable:
* Experience in digital design: servo loop design, control systems and data acquisition
* Knowledge of testing methods for electromechanical systems
* Familiarity with Altium PCB design software
