Programmers - Bioinformatics

The client is based a few miles south of Cambridge and is now seeking experienced Bioinformatics Programmers .
They are looking for a junior member of the team (i.e. 2-4 years' commercial experience) & a more Senior Programmer (with probably 5 years plus commercial experience) to join their Informatics team. The successful candidates will be involved in the development and operation of the software platform: building and running data analysis pipelines, translating R&D analysis methods into production and developing data tracking systems and interfaces. Innovation, problem-solving & flexibility are all skills needed for these posts.

For candidates at the earlier stages of their career with a least 2 years commercial experience you will be expected to have the following qualifications, skills & knowledge:-
* Degree in Bioinformatics or Computer Science
* Proficiency in Python
* Experience with software development best practices, including version control and testing
* Familiarity with Linux and the command line
* Good communication and presentation skills

And if you also have any of the following experience it would be very beneficial:
* Experience in Bioinformatics or background in biological sciences
* Experience of running pipelines on high-performance compute: farms, clusters, or cloud
* Experience of AWS cloud computing
* Experience of System Administration

Key duties will include working in a team to:
* Write and run production pipelines in a cloud compute environment
* Integrate company technology and systems from lab to cloud
* Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies as appropriate to improve and extend platform capabilities
* Collaborate in multi-disciplinary projects
* Work with the Bioinformatics R&D team to translate new methods into production

For candidates with greater experience (i.e. five years plus), these additional qualifications & skills are required:
* PhD or Masters in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or equivalent experience
* Demonstrable experience of working in a production informatics environment
* Fluency in Linux

Other desirable requirements for this more Senior role should ideally include:
* DevOps /System Administration experience
* Familiarity with Continuous Integration (e.g. Jenkins/Travis)
* Knowledge of Ansible or other automation tools such as Chef/Puppet
* Experience of analysing genomic/metagenomic sequence data

As well as the above, the Senior Programmer duties will also include:
* Design and development of the company informatics infrastructure
* Implement production pipelines in a cloud compute environment
* Develop and enhance the central data tracking system
* Optimise and streamline production pipelines and processes
