» Technical & Field Services Engineer/Manager

Our client is seeking a qualified engineer who will develop in to their technical manager in time. You will be in charge of leading the field introduction of a new product concept aimed at the domestic & commercial sectors in a new and rapidly emerging market. This will also entail managing and developing the technical aspects of the products, as well as running trials with major clients & establishing and running the field installation resources.

The products are sophisticated & use a wide range of communication technologies including wireless, wired & internet protocols. They have sensors, which measure appliance loads and consumption; they also have an element of control embedded in them. Your skills therefore need to span electrics, control engineering, in-home communications and IT. In addition they have an ambitious development programme for the successful candidate to lead.

They wish to challenge the standard 'field service' role and differentiate themselves in terms of approach & service levels & will be looking at the engineer/manager to look at alternative ways of finding the right approach. There will be a challenging range of skills to master but you will have a significant role to play in the business where your input and ideas will be encouraged.

They will consider an engineer currently working in the controls industry or an energy/environmental consultant who has experience of working with new energy technologies such as smart metering. It is essential to be degree qualified (or equivalent) in an engineering or scientific discipline & ideally have experience in a commercial environment in electrical products and/or energy sectors. In addition, you should have a thorough understanding of IT based consumer products and their management, have a positive attitude & a willingness to innovate & try new approaches to build robust & scalable systems in a fast growing business. The post will include mainly UK travel & you should have an interest in green issues.
