		<title>Technical Author</title>
		<description>Your role will be to provide a technical author function within the Technical Publications Department.Your main duties will include the following:1.	The authoring and production of Company Product manuals using Adobe Framemaker in accordance with approved standards and procedures.2.	To be responsible for the compilation, assimilation and production of Technical Publication manuals and other deliverables, from engineering drawings/sketches and technical briefs both written and oral.  Effective communication of such information to all involved members of the department will be required. 3.	To participate in project reviews as appropriate, and provide departmental manager with a 	summary of such reviews.4.	The maintenance of effective communication between Project Leaders/Managers and the department, relating to the type of deliverable specified at the onset and duration of a project, and the maintenance of a diary or other method of recording project events, occurrences and timescales.  This information is to be presented at progress planning meetings.5.	To assist in the technical evaluation of proposed project requirements and to provide estimations of work content and timescales in support of a Project Leader/Manager. Provision of such information is to be feedback to the departmental manager.6.	Ensuring that the required deliverables for all projects are on-time and to the highest quality standards.7.	The provision of a list of project requirements to the Technical Illustrator is required, ensuring that timely, accurate and agreed estimation of the workload are given to the Departmental manager, for overall summaries and allocation of department resources.8.	Assist in the maintenance of the Framemaker operating system and provide recommendations/suggestions on ways in which the system efficiency can be improved when appropriate.						9.	To be responsible for the on-going maintenance and updating of product manuals, in response to Engineering change, product enhancements and customer requirements, as directed. KEY REQUIREMENTSAn Electro/Mechanical engineering background to include Laser technology is required.A proven and recent track record as a Technical Author with a minimum of 5 years experience.Conversant with the New Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.Computer literacy essential and experienced and fully conversant with Adobe Framemaker.Sound word processing skills are a pre-requisite. (MS Word).Ability to work independently when required and at the same time be a member of a highly motivated team.Added RefinementsA sound understanding of how to portray Graphical User Interface software documentation at User level.A sound working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat software.A sound working knowledge of Webworks (or similar) would be an advantage.A good understanding of current illustrative and reprographic techniques.The ability to work under pressure and still maintain a sense of humour.RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONSIt is preferable that applicants have an HNC in Engineering or equivalent.</description>
