		<description>Our client is a producer of highly specialised polymers used in the manufacture of Contact and Intraocular Lenses.  Research and development activities are crucial to the continued growth of the company and as a result of our expanding product development activities and they are seeking to recruit an additional member of staff to join the RandD team.  Based at their modern and well-equipped laboratories in North West Essex, you will report directly to the Technical Group Manager and work with polymer based materials for the optics field.  The ideal candidate should have a background in Chemistry with a knowledge of polymers.  A familiarisation with formulation work together with an understanding of polymer characterisation techniques would be advantageous.  Holding a degree (or equivalent) and having 1 yrs relevant  experience, you should be a conscientious and flexible team worker with an analytical attention to detail.  Good communication skills are essential to this role.  Working under the supervision of Project Leaders, you will be involved in the preparation and subsequent characterisation of polymer formulations for the development of new contact lens and intraocular lens materials.  Specific tasks will include:•Formulation of monomer mixtures including dispensation into specific moulds followed by thermally initiated polymerisation.  •Evaluation of a variety of properties of the resulting polymers which are important in contact lens and intraocular lens applications.  Examples of which include:-•	Oxygen permeability•	Surface characterisation•	Mechanical properties•	Residual monomer determination•To assist the Research and Development team in the day to day running of the laboratory, ensuring adequate supplies of chemicals and consumables.</description>
