Electronics Production Technician
Main purpose of the job
To work with our design engineers and our PCB CAD technicians to offer a complete prototype and small-volume electronics manufacturing service.
Type of work undertaken by the group
The Electronics Production Group offers PCB design facility, and a manufacturing facility for building PCB assemblies and complete products in low and medium volumes. The group undertakes schematic capture and PCB layout using Mentor Graphics; and PCBA manufacture using automated pick-and-place PCB assembly and vapour phase re-flow soldering. We aim to provide an end-to-end PCB design and product manufacturing service, including:
* Design for manufacture (DFM) services to our project teams
* PCB Design
o library part entry and checking
o schematic capture - PCB layout
* PCB assembly
o Solder paste screen printing
o Pick-and-place programming and assembly
o Reflow soldering
o Wave soldering
o Hand soldering (assembly, repairs and design modifications)
* Inspection
* Final assembly
o enclosure preparation
o electro mechanical assembly
o wiring harness
* Functional and production testing
Specific responsibilities
As a part of the Electronic Production Group, you will be involved in the following aspects of the manufacture of PCB assemblies and complete prototypes:
* Component Sourcing and Purchasing
* PCB and Electro mechanical assembly
* PCB rework and modification (both SMT and through-hole)
* Operation of automated electronic manufacturing equipment
* Machine maintenance
Minimum requirements
Relevant and comprehensive experience in executing the job responsibilities detailed above.
In addition, some experience with some / all of the following would be beneficial but training will be provided where necessary:
* Working to IPC-A-610 Electronic assembly workmanship standards
* Automated Pick and Place machine programming and operation (Mydata MY9)
* Screen printing (DEK Horizon 03i)
* Inventory management and control
* Good working knowledge of a prototype manufacturing environment
* Working knowledge of circuit diagrams
A background in production engineering and knowledge of surface mount PCB assembly, including fine-pitched components, BGAs, board construction, via technologies and small passives (0402 / 0201) would be beneficial.
Ideally you should have a qualification in electronic engineering, e.g. HNC, although experience in lieu of qualifications is acceptable. Also, an IPC recognised certification and / or knowledge of IPC standards will be an advantage.
