» Database Applications Engineer
Job Purpose:
To work towards delivery and subsequently maintain a widely-applicable database application for storing and analysing tests results within the company, comprising commercial- and open-source technologies.
To stay abreast of developments in the field, and therefore ensure the most fitting solutions to the end users.
To help others utilise the system, and to enhance it where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather, triage, prioritise and marshal requirements, so that development is best suited to the needs of the business
- To identify optimal solutions that address the several of the seemingly-disparate and competing requirements
- To contribute to the technical direction and influence the software and system architecture
- Implement processes for usability, security, disaster recovery, etc.
Person Specification:
Required:
- Proven record of software development
Keen to develop for:
- protocol stacks
- databases
- web-based applications
- text handling applications (parsers, regexps, etc)
- Analysis applications
- Enthusiastic, well motivated and productive, and able to produce high-quality, maintainable software that satisfies requirements
- Ability to identify and assess new technologies and evaluate their applicability
- Ability to gather, triage and prioritize requirements
- Ability to plan and schedule work
- Operates without supervision in a complex environment
- Good analytical and problem solving abilities
Understanding of key technologies in applications, including:
- SQL (Microsoft, MySQL, Oracle)
- OLAP
- PHP or a .net language
- Apache, IIS or similar
- HTTP
- HTML / CSS
- JavaScript
- Perforce / Source Code Management systems
- Tcl
- Good understanding of web-based application architectures
- Good knowledge of software development methodologies
Desired:
- C#
- Java
- Project Management qualification
- C/C++
- Ability to drive and test protocol stacks on embedded systems
Cambridge | Salary range: £32,000 to 44,000
