» Business Development Manager- Transport Industry
Main purpose of the job
You will work with the Commercial Director for the company’s Transport Campaign. Your responsibilities will include supporting the strategic direction of the business, delivering significant personal sales, and carrying out marketing and client management activities, leading to continued growth of this major sector of our business.
Specific responsibilities
You will be responsible for supporting all aspects of Business Development for the Transport business. You will:
- Identify new business opportunities within the transport sector that are potential clients
- Develop strong commercial relationships with senior executives in potential client companies or their contractors
- Use strategic and conceptual selling techniques to access key clients and markets
- Personally close substantial sales
- Contribute to marketing, advertising and promotion events
- Work with and guide our technical teams in Cambridge UK to help them deliver projects that meet the client’s needs
- Feedback market & customer information to the technical teams to support product and service development
- Interact with teams across the broad technical base of the company, which includes:
Sensors & analytics
Wired & wireless communications
Electronics & Software
Business Change and Innovation
- You will also use your strong commercial and technical skills to make a significant contribution to the overall direction of development projects, often working on more than one concurrently. Whilst this position is based in Cambridge, UK, there will be some travel required (typically up to 50% of time)
Minimum requirements
To meet the demanding requirements of this role you will be able to provide the following:
- Significant commercial and contractual experience in one or more of the following areas; Transport industry or sales experience with a design and development services company
- Proven ability to personally close substantial sales
- Practitioner of strategic conceptual selling methodologies, e.g. Miller Heiman
- Proven success in developing substantial business contracts in addition to having influential connections within key Transport organisations
- Experience of Integrated Traffic Systems (ITS) within the UK and/or Europe
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline e.g. engineering, mathematics or physical sciences
- It would be a distinct advantage if you have experience of working for a technical consultancy company
