Design Engineer
Our client, based in Hertfordshire is seeking a Design Engineer with at least 5 years concept design experience. Candidates will have a degree in Engineering Design (Electro-Mechanical).
The Design Engineer will be responsible for
* Electro-Mechanical Design of Standard and Special (custom) vibration test systems based on the standard company product range, to meet customer applications.
* Facilitating New Product Introduction (NPI) from R&D into manufacture.
* Maintaining effective engineering design control, through quality technical documentation and bills of material in accordance with company standards and procedures.
Essential Functions and Duties
1. Work in conjunction with Project Engineers to produce special vibration test system based on the standard company product range.
2. Determination and evaluation of customer applications
3. Develop new concepts through into detailed designs and manufacture
4. Assist in NPI of vibration test systems
5. Production of site layout drawings and schematics (some UK and worldwide travel may be required)
6. Implementing effective engineering design control and PLM through company PDM system and ECO in Oracle (ERP)
7. Design for Manufacture of new materials by calculation, FMEA/Risk Assessment, FEA (CosmosWorks), 3D CAD (SolidWorks), and legacy 2D CAD packages (ME10).
8. Structuring new designs in ERP system (Oracle). Compiling Bills of Material and other essential documentation including Quality Standard documents (ISO9000)
9. When required, assist with modification to electrical designs, including printed circuit boards and assemblies.
10. Working to agreed timescales and communicating progress at regular intervals to all levels within the business
11. Ensure design processes and finished products comply with legal and commercial standards
12. Compilation of comprehensive Technical Files
13. Exceptional focus on Right First Time Design and minimizing warranty costs.
14. Coordination with operations department to ensure correct information transfer and to assist with build and quality issues.
15. Ability to work on multiple projects at different phases in project lifecycle at the same time, and able to switch between priorities when required.
Qualifications
* Engineering Design (Electro-Mechanical) to degree level
* Previous Design for Manufacture experience preferably in hydraulics, pneumatics, medium to large scale fabrication.
* Proven track record of Right First Time Design and Design to Cost
* Knowledge of ISO 9000 with experience of implementing and developing quality procedures
* Competent on 3D CAD modelling using SolidWorks (and relevant analysis tool), Legacy 2D PDM/PLM system and electrical design packages would be beneficial.
* Knowledge of CE marking requirements and associated regulations.
* Good understanding of mechanical principles.
